Rodney W. Redmond, Ed.D.Biography: Dr. Rodney W. Redmond, Interim Dean of Social Sciences, Education, History, Health Enhancement and Physical Education, and Evening/Weekend Office, began his career in education nearly twenty years ago. He taught sophomore level high school English before transitioning into a career in higher education. Within the higher education arena, he worked as an adjunct professor, teaching English Composition and Developmental English, at the University of Akron in Akron, Ohio, before joining the English faculty at Montgomery College. During his tenure as an English faculty member, he served in various roles including his work as a member of the Assessment Center Advisory Committee, the English Discipline Steering Committee, the English CLEP Coordinator, the English Competency Coordinator, and Chair of the Department of English Composition, Literature and Professional Writing. Prior to his current position, he served as the Associate Dean of Humanities for the Rockville Campus. Dr. Redmond also serves the college as the representative to the local NAACP Afro-Academic, Cultural, Technological, Scientific Olympics (ACT-SO) program. Additionally, he is a member of the National Council of Black American Affairs, Rocky D’s Angel Connection Advisory Board, a member of Phi Beta Sigma, Fraternity, Inc., and served as a panelist with the Maryland Arts and Humanities Commission. Dr. Redmond is well-versed in many of the issues that face higher education, especially developmental education. He works continuously to recruit, train and mentor diverse faculty perspectives in the classroom which enhance student success. As the Interim Dean of Social Sciences, Education, History, Health Enhancement and Physical Education, and Evening/Weekend Office, he collaborates with faculty and staff in the area to offer courses that promote social awareness and engagement, healthy living, and responsible preparation of education professionals. He also works to increase student success and retention, as well as professional development opportunities and approaches to diversity for faculty and staff. He also works with students in Social Sciences, Education, History, Health Enhancement and Physical Education courses to resolve issues centered on access. Dr. Redmond earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in English Education from Rust College in Holly Springs, Mississippi. After matriculation at Rust College, he received his Master of Arts degree in English Literature from The University of Akron in Akron, Ohio. His Doctorate of Education in Higher Education Administration, with a concentration in Community College Leadership, was awarded from Morgan State University, in Baltimore, Maryland.
