Biography:
Ms. Helen Castellanos
Brewer was appointed Acting Associate Dean of Student Development at the
Rockville Campus in October, 2006. Prior to this appointment, Ms. Brewer served
as the Director of Student Life and Director of the Educational Opportunity
Center TRIO program since coming to Montgomery College in March 2003. Ms. Brewer
has been in higher education for more than 8 years and prior to her arrival at
Montgomery College, she was a counselor for The College Board in Washington,
D.C.
She has held international credential evaluation and financial aid
counseling positions in the International Education Services Office at the
University of Maryland and the US Department of Education. Ms. Brewer is a
member of the Latin American Youth Center’s Board of Trustees in Washington,
D.C. and a member of the Latin American Advisory Board for the County Executive
in Montgomery County, Maryland. In 2006, she co-chaired the re-establishment of
the Down-County Latino Network, a group that convenes service providers for an
opportunity to exchange of information and provide recommendations to local
agencies with a large Latino based constituency.
During her graduate training at Trinity University in Washington, D.C., Ms
Brewer received the 2002 Who’s Who Graduate Student Award and she earned a
Master of Arts degree in Counseling with a concentration in Student Development
in Higher Education. As a native Marylander, she earned a Bachelor’s Degree in
Psychology from the University of Maryland, College Park.
