Advisors for the clubs are Professor Sara Ducey and staff member Lynn Towle.

SOCIOLOGY, ANTHROPOLOGY AND CRIMINAL JUSTICE
The Montgomery Scholars’ Introduction to Cultural and Social Anthropology class is continuing to conduct interviews for the International Students Portrait Project again this fall in conjunction with the Communication Arts Technology Department. One objective of the project is to document the stories of individual students, particularly those who overcame enormous obstacles in their country of origin. By conducting interviews, anthropology students hope to gain an understanding of some of the global forces behind immigration and insight into the acculturation process of individuals and groups when they move to the United States. Excerpts from the interviews are being paired with amazing photos of the students in an exhibit this fall. During October, students from the Physical Anthropology and Archaeology course have had an opportunity to excavate a 19th century house located in the Little Bennett Regional Park. Carried out in collaboration with the M-NCPPC parks for a cultural resource assessment, the students have found artifacts, building and landscape features of a farm household. Historical documents have identified the owners of the house occupied between 1840 and 1909. The students have had a chance to see the interplay between historical documents and archaeological discoveries and are learning to appreciate their cultural resources.
