Summer 2011 REU Opportunities

Maryland Sea Grant Research Experiences for Undergraduates (REU) Program

MC students are invited to apply for Maryland Sea Grant's Research Experiences for Undergraduates in Estuarine Science. It is a great opportunity.

This REU does not often accept rising juniors.  Applicants from Montgomery College under consideration will need to show that they are matriculated for the following year in a university.  Two students, who started at community colleges, stayed in touch with this REU and then applied after their junior year from a Maryland State University.

DETAILS:

* 12 week program during summer 2011. May 22 to August 14.

* $4200 stipend plus housing and travel to and from site

* http://www.mdsg.umd.edu/REU

* Applications due: February 22, 2011

Apply Online!

Undergraduates in many disciplines are selected, including engineering, biology, chemistry, physics, mathematics, ecology and marine and environmental science.

There is particular interest in supporting talented students from institutions where access to marine science and to research projects is limited and who are from underrepresented groups in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM).

Since 1989, NSF has supported bringing students to conduct individual research projects with a scientist-mentor at either Chesapeake Biological Lab or Horn Point Lab of the University of Maryland Center for Environmental Science.
