As the Instructional Dean of Science, Engineering and Mathematics (SEM), Rockville, Montgomery College, Maryland, I welcome you to our SEM website.

As part of the Montgomery College mission "Changing Lives", SEM is committed to providing quality instruction in science, engineering and mathematics that leads to understanding and competence suitable for the emerging global economy.

SEM consists of the departments of Biology, Chemistry, Mathematics, Physics, and Engineering & Geosciences. Our Mathematics and Science Center provides tutoring and other support for students enrolled in SEM classes. The Office of Internships helps students obtain internships in local science and engineering based companies. The internship office also supports applications for undergraduate research, including research supported by the National Science Foundation (NSF) Research Experiences for Undergraduates (REU).

SEM is home to the nation's largest engineering transfer program, with over 800 students. Our students regularly transfer to the University of Maryland, Georgia Tech, George Washington University, and Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.

Almost all of the SEM undergraduate courses are transferable to national class four-year institutions. Students in these courses have numerous academic enhancement opportunities through student clubs, internships and undergraduate research.

SEM Rockville has grant support exceeding $2.5 million, including funding from our US Department of Education FIPSE grant (Project Portal to Success in Engineering), the National Science Foundation (ACCESS Engineering and S-STEM Program), CCLI (Course Curriculum and Laboratory Improvement) and the National Institute of Health Biomedical Scholars Program.
