Purpose
In keeping with the mission of Montgomery College to "enrich the community," the Office of Student Life seeks to promote service-learning as an integral aspect of education and to foster college engagement within the larger community. We provide services, resources, and support to students, student organizations, faculty, and staff interested in participating in or organizing community service and service-learning experiences. The Office of Student Life also helps recruit and mobilize students to meet volunteer needs.
What is Service Learning?
Service-Learning is a method by which students learn and develop through active participation in thoughtfully organized service that:
- is integrated into and enhances academic and co-curricular learning.
- is conducted in and meets the needs of the community,
- is coordinated with an institution of higher education and community partner.
- includes structured time for the students to reflect on the service experience.
- helps foster civic responsibility.
