9-11 Commemorative (September)
Join the Montgomery College community in a moment of silence to commemorate the tragedy of September 11, 2001. There is a brief address and moment of silence at 8:47 AM at the time the first tower of the World Trade Center was hit.
Advocacy Day (February)
Advocacy Day is an annual event where students from Maryland’s sixteen community colleges visit the state capitol to meet with legislators and advocate for the interests of community colleges.
Alternative Breaks and Alternative Weeekends (various times during each semester)
Meet new people, see new places, make a difference.
Alternative Breaks are week- and weekend-long trips that engage students in social issues through direct service, issue education, and reflection activities.
There are three weekend-long breaks for Rockville students in the fall, spring, and summer and one college-wide trip during the winter break.
Annual Awards Banquet (May)
This event recognizes the hard work and dedication of students who are involved in campus clubs and organizations. Students and advisors are recognized for club of the year, club program of the year, advisor of the year, club member of the year and other awards.
Earth Day Festival (April)
Student clubs, communtiy volunteer and advocacy organizations, and academic departments come together to celebrate the Earth and its people, learn ways to care for our environment, and volunteer.
FYE and OSL Habitat for Humanity Day of Service (October)
The Office of Student Life partners with the First-Year Experience program in an all-day service event. Join three-dozen other first-year students and FYE Student Ambassadors in the Habitat Neighborhood Revitalization Project.
Global Youth Service Day (late-April)
This international event celebrates the power of youth service and activism. MC students can participate in several county-sponsored events, or create their own with a club.
International Student Week (November)
International Student Week provides the campus community with the opportunity to showcase the diversity of our students via programs provided by the Office of Student Life, student clubs & organizations as well as others. The events join students, faculty, staff and community members so that they may celebrate and enjoy the diversity of our campus.
Involvement Fest (formerly known as Club Rush)(Beginning of each semester)
This outdoor event provides students an opportunity to learn more about the numerous ways they can get involved on campus. Various student clubs and organizations have tables to share information about their particular group, recruit new members and identify potential faculty/staff advisors.
Make a Difference Day (late-October)
Volunteer opportunities abound on this self-explanatory day of service.
MLK, Jr. Day of Service (January)
Join volunteers across the country honoring Dr. King with "a day on," not a day off. Students participate in a variety of community service opportunities on campus, in the county, and in their communities.
New Student Orientation (NSO) (Beginning of each semester)
NSO offers an “insider’s” introduction to Montgomery College and provides essential information to help students navigate and get connected to Montgomery College. Students meet fellow students, faculty, staff, and administrators and discover the many campus resources available. When new students make these connections early on, they are more likely to experience a successful transition and enjoy their college experience.
Office of Student Life Open House (Beginning of each semester)
The Office of Student Life invites students, faculty, and staff to learn more about our office and resources. Meet the OSL staff and tour the office to see where the co-curricular programming is done. Light refreshments are served and OSL giveaways are available.
Peace, Justice, and Service Week (September)
This week of activities includes International Peace Day, a volunteer fair, Bike2College Day, and opportunities to learn about and engage local social issues.
Welcome Week (Beginning of each semester)
This event welcomes new and returning students to the campus. Students can meet new friends and catch up with the old ones while enjoying fun, music, food, and giveaways.
Wellness Wednesdays (First Wednesday of each month)
Learn about different health and wellness topics important to student success.
