What is the Student Senate?
The Student Senate is the student government organization at the Rockville campus. It represents the entire student body on many levels from organizing events to voicing student concerns to the college administration and state legislation. |
What are their responsibilities?
The senate’s primary responsibilities include addressing common student issues and above all enhancing student life during your academic career at Montgomery College!
Why do I need to participate?
You have the opportunity to shape your student government! As a student on the Rockville Campus, it is your responsibility to make sure your suggestions, comments, feedback and concerns are heard and clearly communicated. The Student Senate offers you the opportunity to do so; your participation will make a difference towards making your voice heard.

What is the Montgomery Advocate Student Newspaper?
The Montgomery Advocate Student Newspaper is a community focused student-run campus publication. It is exclusively staffed by MC students and offers an excellent opportunity to gain valuable work experience in:

publication editing, writing, and research;

technology, graphic design, layout, and photography;

supervision and budget management;
-
advertisement, and
-
collaborating with others
If you are interested in contributing to the campus community, gaining media experience, improving your writing, developing effective networking skills, meeting new people, and enhancing your MC co-curricular education experience then get involved with the Advocate today!

What is Phi Theta Kappa (PTK)?
PTK is an International Honor Society of the Two-Year College. The Beta Lambda Alpha chapter of this national honor society was established in 1960."The purpose of Phi Theta Kappa shall be to recognize and encourage scholarship among two-year college students. To achieve this purpose, Phi Theta Kappa shall provide opportunity for the development of leadership and service, for an intellectual climate for exchange of ideas and ideals, for lively fellowship for scholars, and for stimulation of interest in continuing academic excellence." |
o be eligible for membership in PTK:
- must be currently enrolled at MC-R
- having completed 15 credits of college level credits at MC (excluding developmental courses in EL, EN, RD and MA), and
- have a GPA of 3.50 or greater
Once you’ve completed these qualifications the campus chapter will send you a letter of invitation.
Phi Theta Kappa membership gives you access to valuable benefits. For instance, your academic excellence will be:
- recognized with a Golden Key Membership Certificate, Identification Card, and Pin
- notation of membership on your diploma and transcripts
- the privilege of wearing a regalia at graduation that identify you as a member of Phi Theta Kappa.
- letters of recommendation, and
- publication announcement about your induction into the society.
There are also scholarship benefits as well. The PTK Scholarship Directory lists up to $36 million in scholarship that is exclusive to Phi Theta Kappa members.
