What Students Are Saying:

“I learned how important it was for a community to have space for play and leisure; I never thought it significant prior to the trip, but seeing the children play on that day made me realize the impact that a place can achieve.”

""This trip made me realize that [the animals] have feelings, they can smell, eat, think, play, etc... In addition, I realized that it only takes one person to make a difference."

“I feel that I had a chance to connect and get to know
people, who I wouldn't under other circumstances. It taught me how great it can be to talk to people who are different from me.”

"This was my first Alternative Weekend Break trip and I just absolutely enjoyed it... it was an experience that I will never forget!"

Alternative Breaks are week- and weekend-long service trips that help students learn about social issues through direct service, issue education, and reflection. Alternative Breaks help students explore how they can make a difference in their local and broader communities in the issues that matter to them...and affect us all.

Adopt-a-Breaker & The Alternative Breaks Engagement Scholarship
Though the Office of Student Life does offset some of the tranportation costs of Alternative Breaks, students share food, transportation, lodging, and activities fees. For some students, even $60 is a lot to pay to volunteer. Students with financial need can apply for an Engagement Scholarship, which is funded through the Adopt-a-Breaker Montgomery College Foundation Fund. Consider adopting an alternative breaker today.
