Notes for MC Students
Who is a Transfer Student?
UMUC looks for a student with 30 credits completed on a transcript
at the time of application (excluding EL/RD courses). Students with less than 30 credits will be
asked to submit high school transcripts and SAT scores. Students
generally complete up to 60 credits at MC prior to transfer to UMUC.

Courses at UMUC - 7 Week Sessions Year Round
Placement Testing:
Transfer students who have completed a prerequisite course in mathematics and English composition are not required to take the
UMUC placement tests.

Questions About UMUC
- Can I transfer in mid-year?
Yes
- Will I get housing in a dorm on
campus? No, UMUC does not offer on-campus housing in any of
their locations.
- Can I attend evening classes UMUC?
Yes - classes are primarily offered in evening hours
only. Many on-line courses are also offered, and a limited
number of daytime classes may be available for Business / Computer
Science majors at
Shady Grove.
- Can I go to school part-time?
Yes
- Can I continue to take classes at
Montgomery College while going to Maryland? Yes, if you
have not transferred the maximum of 60 credits, you may still be
able to take courses at MC. Once you begin at UMUC, you need
to get approval from a UMUC adviser to come back and take classes at MC.
- Can I meet with an adviser at UMUC
to talk about my major? Advisers at UMUC will meet with
students individually to outline a detailed course plan after they
have completed 6 credits of coursework at UMUC. Attend an Open
House for initial information, and use an ARTSYS
