Transfer Advising for Architecture
Majors
Requirements for
Architecture Majors vary by institution. Be sure to follow the ARTSYS printout for each of the
Maryland schools that interest you. Application into an Architecture major is
extremely competitive, requiring a higher GPA and usually a portfolio of work
prior to admission. Contact transfer institutions early on for
advising information.
MC offers CT
170, Introduction to the Built Environment, Rockville
Campus, as an introductory course for architecture
students.

Park Students
in the UM Architecture program are admitted in two ways: direct
admits from high school, and transfer admits, who are students enrolled
at UM and elsewhere competing for 30 seats each year. Students who
are in the Pre-Architecture program at UM compete with all community
college students and out-of-staters for this very small number of
seats. According to the School
of Architecture's "Frequently Asked Questions" page, many
of the students hoping to be admitted are enrolled in UM's Honors
Program or the University Scholars Program. In addition, UM
requires a drawing course not offered at MC. Students may
take this class at a reduced price while attending MC full-time through the
Maryland Transfer Advantage Program (MTAP). Read all of
the School of Architecture Admissions Requirements carefully and meet
with an adviser at MC to discuss your plan of action, which should also
include a Plan B because of the extremely competitive admissions process
for this program.
