Lakeforest Shopping Center Presents a $1,000.00 Scholarship for Careers in Business

Administered by the Montgomery County Business & Professional Women’s Foundation, Inc.

 Eligibility Requirements 

  • The applicant must be a woman, twenty-one years or older.

  • The applicant must be a resident of Montgomery County.

  • The applicant must demonstrate critical financial need.

  • The applicant must submit a well-defined plan to use the desired education to develop or upgrade skills in Business or Business related fields.

  • The applicant must be a United States citizen.

  • The applicant must carry a minimum of six credit hours per semester.

TOWSON NATIONAL SCIENCE FOUNDATION AWARDS

Towson University has been awarded an S-STEM grant from NSF to fund scholarships for students majoring in MATHEMATICS, Computer Science, Computer Information Systems, MB-3 (Bio Informatics), and Forensic Chemistry.

This scholarship offers up to $5000 per year for qualified undergraduates in these majors.

We will accept applications for the Fall 2008 until August 1 (ignore the date on the application form; that was for the first wave).

Students must have a 3.0 GPA, be US citizens or have US resident status, and must demonstrate financial need by filing the FAFSA and having it sent to TU.  We also require two reference letters.

Chevy Chase Bank Scholarships - Business Scholarships for Smith - Univ. of Maryland

The Chevy Chase Bank Scholarships provide scholarships to business students who transfer from Montgomery College. To qualify, student candidates must meet the following criteria:

- Be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident.
- Demonstrate financial need and good academic standing.
- Recipients must be taking classes and making satisfactory progress toward the completion of a bachelor's degree with Maryland's Robert H. Smith School of Business at the Universities at Shady Grove or at the University of Maryland, College Park.
- Be a full-time student.

Award: The scholarship award can range from $2,000 to more annually, based on need and contingent upon acceptance to the Robert H. Montgomery County Women’s Bar Foundation Scholarship
Application for 2008-2009
 

The Montgomery County Women’s Bar Foundation, Inc., offers scholarships to qualified individuals to assist in their education at Montgomery College.  Scholarship awards range from $1,000.00 to $3,500.00 per recipient. 

Applicants for the scholarship are evaluated according to the following criteria:

 Service to School and Community, Essay, Academic Performance, Financial Need, Recommendations 

At the time of application, applicant must be registered or accepted at Montgomery College; if registered, applicant must be in good standing.

Towson University’s Early Childhood Education at Shady Grove

The Early Childhood Program at the Universities at Shady Grove begins Fall 2008.  The availability of a special one-time $1000 per year for two years scholarship for the first 18 students who meet all the requirements of entrance into this new program by June 11, 2008. 

To be eligible for the special scholarship you must submit a complete Application for Admission by Saturday, May 3, 2008. Applications are available at www.towson.edu/discover (Click Apply Now; Click Application for Undergraduate Admissions PDF; Password: "Student" ).  Because Early Childhood Education is a screened major all candidates who have completed AAT degrees must also meet the following admission requirements.

  • Passing scores on PRAXIS I as established by MSDE (527 cumulative)
  • A minimum of 2.75 on all prerequisite coursework required for the major
  • Speech and hearing screening (provided during the required summer orientation)

AFCEA DC Scholarship Program

To promote higher education, AFCEA DC gives college scholarships to eligible applicants that are studying technology, math and science.  The $3,000 one year scholarship program is open to students leaving two-year community colleges to attend four year degree-granting programs.

Selection is based on:

  • Academic Achievement
  • School Activities
  • Community/Civic Activities
  • Part-Time Work
  • Financial Need (other factors count more)
  • Letters of Recommendation

To receive following year funds, students must:

  • Remain in an eligible criteria field of study
  • Maintain a grade point average of 2.5 or better (on a 4.0 scale), as verified by an official transcript, and
  • Have not received a full tuition scholarship, as verified by their school bill.

Postmark deadline is April 10, 2008.

Central Scholarship Bureau

Central Scholarship Bureau (CSB) is a nonprofit, privately funded organization.  Their mission is to help students cover the costs of college, professional, or vocational training by offering those who qualify interest-free loans, grants and scholarships.  More than $600,000 is awarded each year in new loans.

  • Loans are always interest-free, including throughout the repayment period.  There are no application or loan fees to the students of family at any time.
  • Interest-Free Loans are limited to a maximum of $10,000 per academic year. 
  • Actual award amounts are determined by the selection committee.  Maximum cumulative amount for any individual student is $40,000.
  • Qualified co-signers are required.
  • The current application deadline is May 31, 2008.

Who May Apply?

  • Full-time students in good academic standing
  • Established residents of the State of Maryland
  • Those who meet CSB income guidelines and have applied for Federal financial aid

Their 2008 application will be posted to our website by January 2, 2008.  You must complete CSB online application and send all supporting materials to us by May 31, 2008.  All your materials must be postmarked by that date.  Applications are reviewed by order received.

WSSC Commissioners Offer Scholarship to Promising Students  

Local students eligible for scholarship to study water/wastewater engineering

The Washington Suburban Sanitary Commission (WSSC) Commissioners are offering a $1,000 scholarship to a college student from Prince George’s or Montgomery County who majors in Water/Wastewater Engineering.  

The maturing WSSC workforce and the ongoing need to replace and maintain an aging infrastructure will create many opportunities in the water and wastewater profession, especially in engineering. Commission Vice-Chair Joyce Starks of Prince George’s County views the scholarship as one way to develop a pool of potential hires to meet WSSC’s personnel needs while introducing new employment opportunities to aspiring engineers.  She has spearheaded the scholarship initiative over the past few years. The first scholarship was awarded in 2006.
