Purpose

Montgomery College's Service Learning program supports and enhances student achievement through meaningful volunteer experience.  Students develop civic responsibility, community awareness, and leadership skills through service to the local community.

Definition

Service Learning is a form of active learning that values critical thinking and problem solving.  It combines classroom instruction with volunteer activities that address community needs.  Participants in Service Learning programs develop academic skills and enhance their commitment to their communities.
