Week #4 Interests

Introduction

You have spent the first three weeks of this courses taking a look at your values, skills, abilities, intelligences, personality type and more.  Some would argue that interests are the most important factor in the career decision making process.  Your task this week is to understand your career interests as defined by your Strong Interest Inventory results and pull together all that your have learned about yourself and careers.  A tall order to be sure.  If you are feeing overwhelmed, know that you are not alone.  Make sure to talk about your experiences this week on the discussion board.

Objectives

Students will:

  • Use Strong Interest Inventory to define strongest career interests
  • Integrate career interests with all other self assessments to define career profile
  • Narrow list of possible careers and identify one career to investigate for the remainder of the course
Read It - Websites & Course Materials - Monday

1. Read all parts of your Strong Interest Inventory results.  You should have received this in the mail.

2. Read Understanding your Strong Interest Inventory Results

3. Read supplemental information from the University of Missouri website

Do It - Career Self Assessments - Tuesday
Complete the Strong Interest Inventory Interpretation Activities

Complete the Career Matcher Inventory in Career Cruising, select Educational level, complete the My Skills inventory, Save to My Portfolio
Write It - Discussion Board - Wednesday
The self assessment part of this course is coming to an end this week.  Frequently students feel overwhelmed with the amount of career information they are learning about themselves and find it challenging to pull together all the pieces of the puzzle.  Provide a reflection summary of how the self assessment process has been for you so far.  Write candidly about feelings and thoughts.  This is an open ended discussion about YOUR career development process.  Make use of this discussion to get feedback from me and from other students in the course.  You have much to learn from one another.  Make sure to read everyone's messages and respond to at least two other students.

1. Complete Datasheet and upload to Assignment Drop

  • Open the Career Profile Datasheet
  • Use your Right Mouse button to right click on the document and Select All
  • Go to Edit on your Menu Bar and select Copy
  • Open a new Word Document, go to Edit, Paste
  • Complete the assignment
  • Save as yourlastnamedatasheetwk4
  • Go back to course website
  • Select Assignment Drop
  • Select Career Profile Datasheet
  • Select Upload File
  • Select the Browse button to find the yourlastnamedatasheetwk4 document
  • Select upload
  • Select Submit assignment button
  • Say ok to the Confirmation box
  • I will return this assignment with feedback
