Germantown Guest Speakers and Online Tutorials/Assignments

Consider inviting guest speakers to present topics within your DS course.   If you invite someone in person, you may want to confirm the date by e-mail.  Ask whether the speaker will need any special equipment (projector for PowerPoint, room with computers for students to use).  Send a reminder one week prior to date.

Another alternative is to use the online interactive modules/activates/assignments.  Select the Speaker and Web Information link to find these resources.

Assessment / Grading

Banner Web to Excel
There is a way to transport data from Banner Web to Excel!!! This is an easy way to set up a grade book.

How?
Pull up your roster (see the instructions on how to do this under tab 5 in your resource guide); select all names of students, SS#'s; left click and copy; open Excel; left click and paste data.

The names will appear in the column as a hyperlink - this facilitates your ability to send an email to a student (if an email is on file).  Otherwise, if you would rather have their name appear as plain text in your spreadsheet, simply select  the column or cell; place arrow on the column or cell and right click; select "remove hyperlink."  It's just that simple!!  Try it!!!

Using Technology

Using the Multimedia Workstation

In Banner web, there is a link that reads "email class"  - this is also a very cool feature, and one of many ways to communicate with your students; encourage your students to post an email address if one is not on file.
