Step 5 Research Admissions Requirements
- How do most colleges define a true "transfer
student"? (1 point)

Step 6 Narrow Down Your List
- When is the best time to make an appointment with an MC
Transfer Counselor? (1 point)
- USE the web to "dig deeply into one school's home
page, paying particular attention to Transfer Admissions information."
Two four-year schools (any two), go to their home pages, and find a
reference to transfer admissions requirements for each school. List
which schools you checked out, and copy and paste the information on
transfer admissions requirements into this assignment. Hint -
Google has a search engine for college web pages at: http://www.google.com/options/universities.html

Step 7 Create a Transfer Plan - Choose courses that will transfer smoothly.
- Which two resources should you use to find specific
course requirements for a particular major if you're looking at a Maryland
public four-year institution? (2 points)
- Using ARTSYS, pick one of the Maryland public schools
and then print out a Recommended Transfer Program (RTP) for a major that
interests you. Write out the following: (3 points)
- the name of the school and the name of the major
you printed out
- any comments you have about using ARTSYS - was it
easy to use? Could you have figured out how to print out an RTP
without instructions?
- List any three required courses for the major you
chose. In addition, what MC math course do you need to take for
this major? (It will appear either as a specific math course, like
'MA 116" or it'll say Mathematics Area. Click on the Area
line to see what math courses fulfill the math requirement.
Step 8 Apply for admission:
applications, essays, letters of recommendations and MC transcripts
- What are three important things to remember when
requesting letters of recommendations? (3 points)
- Which four tips on writing college essays really seem
useful to you? (2 points)
- Bonus Question: Write out a 500-word college
essay titled "My Most Unforgettable College Instructor - My DS 107
Teacher." Use specific examples, personal anecdotes, and direct
quotations... just kidding!
Step 9 Search for resources to pay for
college - scholarships and financial aid
- Choose one loan program link and briefly describe the
terms for that particular loan - the annual percentage rate and number of
years to repay. (2 points)
- Dig through the Montgomery College Transfer Scholarship
Page to come up with two possible scholarships for yourself. List
those programs and briefly describe what the award is for and minimum
qualifications. (2 points)
