Transfer Planning Module


Introduction

Many students come to Montgomery College with the intent of transferring to a four year school to earn a Bachelor's degree. The process can be confusing.  In this module you will learn the tools to make a smooth transition from MC to your next stop on the education highway.
 


Objectives

Students will:

  • Learn the essential steps necessary to transfer smoothly from MC to a 4 year college.
  • Understand what tools are available to search for 4 year colleges.
  • Learn the necessary elements of creating a transfer plan.
  • Learn how to implement your transfer plan.

Lecture Materials

Complete the 9 steps of the Transfer Tutorial either by following this link or by selecting the link of each step from the Table of Contents.  Here are the 9 Transfer Tutorial steps:

  • Meet with a counselor each semester prior to registering for classes. 
  • Begin by taking General Education courses in your first year. Become familiar with Maryland’s regulations on General Education and Transfer.
  • Explore majors
  • Search for colleges
  • Research admission requirements for each college or university that interests you.
  • Narrow down your choices
  • Create a Transfer Plan - Choose courses that will transfer smoothly.
  • Apply for Admission  
  • Search for resources to pay for college - scholarships and financial aid

Carefully read and explore each of the 9 steps in the Transfer Module tutorial.  Make a copy of the Transfer Assignment before you start exploring.  Answer each question as you work through the Tutorial

 
Discussion Share a summary of your transfer plans.  Let us know if you plan to transfer, after how
many credits, where etc.  Let us know how you chose your transfer school and what
things make you most certain that this is a good choice for you.

If you are still clueless about your transfer plans, list at least three things you will do to
move toward making a transfer decision.

Assignment Turn in the answers to the transfer assignment by submitting to the Assignment Drop.  The naming convention for this paper is yourlastnametransfer. For example, For example, John Smith's paper would be smithtransfer.

You will submit this assignment to the Assignment Drop.  Here is how to do it:

  • Go to the Table of Contents for this Module
  • Open the Transfer Assignment (available by clicking this link)
  • Use your Right Mouse button to right click on the document and Select All
  • Go to Edit on your Menu Bar and select Copy
  • Open a new Word Document, go to Edit, Paste
  • Complete the Assignment
  • Save as yourlastnamelearningstyles
  • Go back to course website
  • Select Assignment Drop
  • Select Learning Styles Reflection Paper
  • Select Upload File
  • Select the Browse button to find the yourlastnamedecisionmaking document
  • Select upload
  • Select Submit assignment button
  • Say ok to the Confirmation box
  • Don't forget to read the feedback on your returned assignment
