How Can I Customize The Way I Look at Web Sites?

IE allows you to customize the way web pages are displayed on your desktop.  There are many changes you can make to IE to meet your needs.  In this lesson you will learn how to customize the way web pages are displayed in your browser.  You will be given examples of and will be given opportunities to practice using each function. 

 

In this step you will change the text size.

Web developers use different font sizes.  You are able to change the size of the font as it appears on your screen.

Activity

1. Go to View on the Menu Bar.

2. Select Text Size.

3. Choose another size and observe the changes.

In this step you will hide and rearrange Toolbars.

IE displays the Title Bar, Button Bar, and Address Bar.  This takes up a lot of screen space. You can change the arrangement or hide these bars.

Activity

1. Go to View on the menu bar.

2. Go to Toolbars.  A check mark appears next to the Toolbars that are visible.

3. Select and deselect the toolbars or the Status Bar which is also available in the View menu.

4. Go to the Customize option at the bottom of the Toolbar menu.  See if there are any buttons you would like to add to or remove from your Button Bar.

5. Highlight an item on either side of the dual windows and select an action.

6. At the bottom of this menu, there are options for changing the way the buttons are displayed.

7. Customize your toolbars any way you like.

In this step you will change the display colors.

You will next go to the Internet Options area.  There are many ways to alter IE.  You will only learn a few in this tutorial.  The first is how to change the font color.

Activity

1. Go to Tools, Internet Options and make sure the General Tab is selected.

2. At the bottom, select the Colors button and experiment with different color combinations for displaying text and links.

In this step you will change the font style.

You may want to change the default font used to display text.

1. Go to Tools, Internet Options and make sure the General Tab is selected. 

2. At the bottom, select the Fonts Button to change the display font.

In this step you will change your Homepage.

Your Homepage is the page that IE automatically displays each time you sign in.  Itís most convenient to identify the site you visit most frequently and make it your Homepage.

Activity

1. Navigate to the page you want to designate as your Homepage.

2. Go to Tools, Internet Options and make sure the General Tab is selected. 

3. Select the Use Current button.

4. Click ok.

In this step you will resize the browser window using the edges of a page.

You have previously learned to change the resize your browser window using the buttons in the upper right corner. You can also resize by moving your pointer to any edge or to the corners of the page and dragging to make an adjustment.

Practice changing the size of your browser window.

In this step you will drag a web page.

You may want to move the entire window to a different location of your desktop.  To do this, move your mouse to the Title Bar, click the mouse button, and drag the window.
