BUSINESS EDUCATION PROGRAM
INTRODUCTION:
Experts who possess skills in computer applications are in great demand. This demand will
continue to grow as the global economy expands. To help meet that demand, the Montgomery
County Public Schools and Montgomery College have developed programs designed to teach these
skills. MCPS and Montgomery College have joined to assist students to meet future employment
needs by offering them a joint curriculum that will prepare them for the exciting work worlds of
business and information technology. The Tech Prep College Program is a joint effort between
Montgomery County Public Schools and Montgomery College. It is designed to provide a rigorous,
relevant curriculum for students who wish to explore or prepare for careers in business and
information technology.
Administration, curriculum coordinators, and the respective faculties of both institutions have
examined the course competencies and content taught at both institutions and have agreed to:

prepare students for degrees or certificates in the applicable programs listed in the chart
below.

CERTIFICATION:
Students who wish to enter Montgomery College will present an official high school transcript
attached to a completed Articulation Agreement Credit Award Form verifying successful completion
of the articulated courses with a grade of B or better to the Montgomery College Admissions and
Records Office. To receive credit, students must enroll at Montgomery College within two years
of completion of an articulated program with MCPS. Credit will be transferred upon admission
into Montgomery College in an applicable program.

OTHER SPECIAL CONSIDERATIONS:
Students having earned articulated credit in two Montgomery College courses beyond the CA102
level are encouraged to enroll in Montgomery College during their senior year in high school.
Enrollment should be in courses leading to a certificate in Administrative Support Technology,
Help Desk, or Information Technology.
IMPLEMENTATION:
To implement this agreement, the participating institutions agree to:
Offer approved Montgomery County Public Schools courses during grades nine through twelve in
mathematics, science, and technology that include prerequisite skills and content for courses
offered in the Montgomery College curriculum in Accounting and Business Administration.
Students should be encouraged to pursue a challenging academic program in grades nine through
twelve. Students may be required to take remedial courses in English, reading, and mathematics
before moving onto the next level course in their chosen program.
Articulate for advanced placement with Montgomery College's Computer Applications program
specific courses that are deemed comparable to college courses currently required in the college
curricula.
Jointly develop promotional materials to describe the program to students, staff, faculties,
parents, and the community.
Jointly develop and implement a procedure to monitor, evaluate, and assess the effectiveness of
the program.
Communicate this agreement to all concerned, including counselors, faculty, and students.
Designate one staff member at each high school that offers these articulated courses with
responsibility for coordinating the agreement and one secondary school and one college
administrator for overall supervision and annual review of the agreement.
Review the agreement annually and coordinate any curricular changes that may affect the
agreement.
THIS AGREEMENT, having been formulated by the responsible faculties and administrative personnel
of the Montgomery County Public Schools, and Montgomery College, and having been certified by
the chief academic officers of both institutions, is herewith agreed to for implementation
beginning with the Spring Semester of 2000.
