FIRE SCIENCE

Exciting and challenging opportunities await you in fire and rescue technology. Each year fires take thousands of lives and destroy billions of dollars of property. Accidents, heart attacks and other emergencies require urgent medical attention. The fastest growing occupational area is in emergency medical services. In fact, the State of Maryland projects a growth in this area of about 17 percent by the year 2005. During the high school portion of their studies, students will attend classes daily from 1 to 4 PM at the Montgomery County Public Services Training Academy, where they will receive classroom instruction and practice fire and rescue skills under controlled conditions. But that's not all! Successful completion of the high school Fire Service Cadet Program can provide students with up to nine credits at Montgomery College towards an A.A.S. degree in Fire Science. So, imagine your future working in fire and arson investigation, hazardous materials handling, or fire protection engineering!
