The
Montgomery College
Alumni Association hosted
a special dinner-theatre event on the
Rockville Campus
to honor former U.S. Congresswoman and MC Professor
Connie Morella on
Sunday, July 20. Over
200 people enjoyed a special MC Summer
Dinner Theatre performance of Hello, Dolly! Nearly
$30,000 has thus far been raised
to endow a scholarship at MC in Connie Morella's name. To view photos from the
event, go to:
http://www.montgomerycollege.edu/news/hottopics/helloconnie.html. If
you'd like to make a contribution to the Connie
Morella scholarship endowment, contact the
MC Alumni Office at 240-567-5378. You
can make a donation over the phone using your Visa or MasterCard, or you can
mail a check, made payable to the Montgomery College Foundation, to the MC
Alumni Office at 900 Hungerford Drive, Ste. 200, Rockville, MD 20850.

The Montgomery College
Office of Admissions,
Records, and Registration is
requesting help from
MC alumni and friends in
contacting students who were enrolled this past spring at MC, but haven't yet
registered for the coming fall semester. Enrollment is down somewhat for the
fall semester, and the Office of Admissions
,
Records
, and Registration is trying to
boost enrollment to meet projections, which, of course, affects MC's funding.
What you can do to help
All the Office of Admissions, Records,
and Registration is asking is that
each volunteer to take some names of students and contact them by phone
to encourage them to register for the fall semester. We will be happy to
provide a script for any volunteer who
would like one, as well as a list of names and phone numbers to contact. You
would need to identify yourself as being from a
volunteer for Montgomery College, encourage them to register for fall,
and ask if they need any help or information. If the do need any help or
information, you would then take their name and number and pass it on to
either the Alumni Office or one of the student recruiters at MC, who would
then contact the student to assist them. You can make calls from you home or
office, and each call should only take a few minutes at most. Even if you're
going on vacation in the next few weeks, you can still take some names and
call when you get back. Registration for fall is continuing from now until the
start of classes on September 2.
This is a
great opportunity for
alumni
and friends of the College to reach out on a very personal level to
current students and let them know how important it is for them to continue
their studies at MC.
If you can help by calling these students, then
please either e-mail the MC
Alumni Office at
alumni@montgomerycollege.edu
or call the Alumni Office at 240-567-5378,
and we'll get you a list of names to call.
As always, your help and support
are greatly appreciated by
MC President Dr. Charlene Nunley and the
MC Board of Trustees in ensuring that MC
stays at the forefront of community colleges nationwide.

URGENT! URGENT! URGENT!
Did you know that Maryland’s community colleges
are expected to be the fastest-growing segment of higher education, and that
community colleges in some regions are bracing for a 50 percent
increase in enrollment in the next decade?
Yet state
support for higher education continues to
significantly decline.
What can this mean to the future of
Montgomery College?
- Increased tuition and fees
- Inability to hire sufficient faculty and
staff needed in a growing institution
- Inadequate space and course availability to
meet a booming student population
- Students having to go outside of the state
to receive a college education
The current economic climate brings the impact
of charitable giving to an urgent level for colleges
and universities. We ask that all Montgomery College alumni show
their support –by making a gift of any size– to the annual fund today. We are
counting on your help!
To make your tax-deductible* donation to the Annual Fund
today, go to:
Good deed for the day!!
Please forward this email to anyone who you think may be interested in
supporting Montgomery
College. Thank you for your help!

Now you can easily support the
Takoma Park
Campus Capital Campaign by
shopping at Safeway. Simply
register with
http://www.escrip.com
and
3% of your grocery purchases at Safeway will go directly to the
Campaign. Your Safeway card and other credit and debit cards must be
registered each year and you can register at their secure site so
purchases from additional merchants will add to the balance. Merchants such as
Spiegel, Eddie Bauer, the Sharper Image and Office Max are among the many who
participate in this program. The campaign runs from October to May, so please
register your cards early!
Proceeds
from these purchases will go to an
endowment
to assist students by providing scholarships, books, uniforms, physical
examinations for certain programs, and daycare needs.
By registering your cards, when the card is scanned, a percentage of
the sale will electronically be sent to the Takoma Park account.
To register, go to
http://www.escrip.com.
The
Takoma Park Capital Campaign group
ID# is 150239498. The
website will guide you through the sign-in process.
It doesn't
cost you one penny over what you already pay for your groceries.
eScrip makes the contributions from their merchants. If you don't have a
Safeway card, you can pick up an application at the customer service desk at
any
Safeway or call 240-567-1311 for an application.
