The 8th Annual F. Scott Fitzgerald Literary
Conference will be held on Saturday, October 11, 2003, on the
Rockville Campus of Montgomery
College. Registration begins at 8:00 a.m. in the Theatre Arts Building.
The conference features workshops and lectures by prominent local writers.
Conference participants are invited to attend workshops in all aspects of
creative writing: short fiction, poetry, playwriting, screenwriting, and
children's literature. An evening reception and award ceremony will honor
Tony Award winner and Kennedy Center honoree
Edward Albee,
who will be presented with the F. Scott Fitzgerald
Literary Award for achievement in American literature.

The Honorable Joyce Mpanga, educator, legislator, and
women's rights representative, will speak on "Gender and the Uganda
Constitution," on Tuesday, October 7, at 7 p.m.,
in the Theater Arts Arena, Rockville Campus.
In 1960, during the colonial days of Africa, she was one of the first women
appointed by the British Colonial Governor to represent women in Parliament.
Since that time, she has been a leader for political independence and civil
reform and has represented Uganda internationally.
Free and open to all, this lecture would be of
particular interest to those interested in
History, Political Science, African Studies, Education, Sociology, Women's
Studies, Business, Journalism, English, and Paralegal courses, as well as
