ALUMNI GIVING AND VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES

Don’t miss this opportunity!  Are you one of the 130 million taxpayers that will receive a tax rebate as part of Congress' Economic Stimulus Act of 2008?  If you are, we hope you will consider donating some or all of your refund to the Montgomery College Foundation to help fund student scholarships and educational programs. News stories across the country have demonstrated the effect that donations to local charitable organizations can have, underscoring that donations to non-profit organizations such as Montgomery College multiply their way through the local economy.

Your gift to the Montgomery College Foundation will provide direct assistance to the College's student and educational programs.  These students are the future of our local businesses and community.  As you may know, eligible taxpayers will start to receive their rebate checks this month.  While we know that some will need to use their checks for their personal needs, we recognize that for others, this might mean they have an added amount in their discretionary income.  If that is the case for you, we hope that you can consider giving to the Montgomery College Foundation.

For your convenience, you can make a gift via credit card online or a check made payable to the Montgomery College Foundation and sent to: Montgomery College Foundation, 900 Hungerford Drive, Suite 200, Rockville, MD, 20850. If you have any questions, please contact Annual Fund Director Kathy Stevens, 240-567-4108, or e-mail kathy.stevens@montgomerycollege.edu.

*************************

Planning a future gift?  The charitable gift annuity rate will decrease on July 1, 2008.  If you’re thinking about making a donation to the College through a charitable gift annuity, now’s the time to contact Elana Lippa, planned giving director, at 240-567-5287, or e-mail elana.lippa@montgomerycollege.edu.  For more information about giving options at Montgomery College, visit www.montgomerycollege.edu/giving.

*************************

Grant a Wish at Montgomery College! If you haven't made a gift yet, here's a great way to do it. (If you have, our thanks to you!) The Office of Institutional Advancement has gone live with a new on-line giving page. Now, you or your friends can visit www.montgomerycollege.edu/giving and in a matter of minutes make a gift to Montgomery College. To make a gift directly, click on “Make a Gift to MC Now.”

You CAN make a difference in the lives of Montgomery College students.  We ask that you consider a gift to help further their education. Each year Montgomery College provides scholarships for over 600 students.  There remain, though, 3,000 students who could not enroll for financial reasons. Please help us bridge this gap and fulfill our student's dreams and goals with a gift to scholarships.

For more information, please contact Kathy Stevens, 240-567-4108, or kathy.stevens@montgomerycollege.edu or mail your payment made payable to the Montgomery College Foundation, 900 Hungerford Drive, Suite 200, Rockville, MD 20850. Please write "e-news" on the memo line of your check.

Mentoring Opportunities: Takoma Park/Silver Spring Student Development seeks both international and American alumni to participate as mentors in the International Buddy Program. The program provides a working relationship between current international students and past students who have either graduated or transferred from Montgomery College. Adjustment to a new community may be difficult, especially if there is a difference in language and culture. The International Buddy Program can help ease the transitional phase and help students adjust to the social, academic and cultural environment at Montgomery College. The primary mode of communication will be e-mail, unless otherwise agreed upon by both parties. All who are interested in serving as mentors must be alumni of Montgomery College. For more information or to volunteer, contact Dr. Harold Barber or Eniola Olowofoyeku at 240-567-1480, or e-mail harold.barber@montgomerycollege.edu or eniola.olowofoyeku.@montgomerycollege.edu. If you have a country or major of study mentor/mentee preference, please indicate that in your e‑mail.
