@Montgomery College Open House The scholarship competition will take place on the Takoma Park/Silver Spring campus in the new Student Services Center the day of the Arts @ Montgomery College Open House event on November 11. Prospective students may submit work in the areas of visual arts and the performing arts. Scholarship awards will be announced that day at the end of the day. Students may use the scholarship money towards any credit courses at Montgomery College. SCHOLARSHIP CATEGORIES This one time, nonrenewable scholarship will include two categories of competition. Students may submit a performance or a portfolio in more than one area. Performing Arts (a nonrenewable $500 scholarship) - areas to be included: dance, film, music, theater. Visual Arts (a nonrenewable $500 scholarship) - areas to be included: architectural technology, graphic design, interior design, photography, studio arts (drawing, painting, printmaking, sculpture). SCHOLARSHIP COMPETITION REQUIREMENTS Performing Arts Dance: each student should prepare a one to two minute dance choreographed by the student or someone else prior to the audition. Students should bring their own dance music on CD or tape. Film/Media: each student should prepare a three to five minute film piece or short. Students should bring their work on a DVD. Music: each student should prepare a three – five minute piece created by the student or someone else prior to the audition. Students should bring their own instruments (excluding pianists). Pianists, please make prior arrangements for use of a piano by emailing Nicole.evans@montgomerycollege.edu. Vocalists should bring musical accompaniment on CD or tape. Theatre: each student should memorize a three – five minute monolog from a published play and prepare it for presentation. Visual Arts (all categories) Each participant should bring five to ten completed works. Works can include photography, representational drawings, painting, prints, sculptures as well as compositions which can include works in the areas of computer graphics and interior design.
