MC acceptable tests and minimum scores

When do I get my scores?

Under normal conditions, you should be able to receive your scores the day of your exam – unless you are taking a required or optional essay. Required essays are graded separately by CLEP, and the combined score of the multiple choice and required essay will be available in one-three weeks. Optional essays are graded locally by the school you have designated, and may/may not take longer to grade than required essays.  back to top

Who grades my essay?

Required essays that come as part of your test within the 90 minutes allotted time are graded by individuals designated by Educational Testing Service.

Optional essays are graded by individuals (usually faculty) at the school you have designated.

Note that for the optional essay, 90 minutes of test time is provided in addition to the 90 minutes usual exam time (for a total of 3 hours of testing time).

Whether you are taking a required or optional essay, your score is not complete until the computerized short answer score is combined with the essay score. You have passed the test only when you have passed BOTH the short answer and the essay portions of the test.  back to top

How soon does my school receive my official score from CLEP?

One-two weeks, if you have not taken an essay with your test. OR One-three weeks, if you have taken a required essay with your test, and perhaps longer, if you have taken an optional essay with your test.  back to top

How do I find out whether Montgomery College has received my scores?

Contact the transcript evaluator at the Montgomery College campus to which you sent your score.

Germantown: sharon.getzandanner@montgomerycollege.edu

Rockville: alice.summers@montgomerycollege.edu

Takoma Park/Silver Spring: ivy.devers@montgomerycollege.edu

Once the score is received, the appropriate evaluator will review it and send you a determination of credit. Test scores received during peak periods (graduation, transcript receipt prior to the opening of school, etc.) may take slightly longer to review. In the interim, if you are a MC student, you may be able to use the student results provided on the day of the exam in a counseling session. Your counselor can place you at the appropriate course level, if you are using CLEP to satisfy a prerequisite or assessment level.

If awarded, your CLEP credits will appear on your Montgomery College transcript. At this time, no letter grade is given. back to top

Is there a charge to send my scores to a school?

If you designate a school at the time of the test, the score will be sent to that school at no additional cost.

If you designate more than one school at the time of the test, you will be charged $20 per additional school/score report, after the first free one. back to top

Can a school get my scores if I did not designate a school at the time of the registration or the test?

Yes. Schools can receive your scores even if you did not request that they be sent at the time of the registration or test. CLEP charges $20 for each school to which you want to send scores after the test. Prices increase once tests are archived after approximately four years. back to top
