What Can You Do?
WHY: For the remainder of the semester until just after Final
Exams, each of the campus’ MC Books & More will be buying textbooks at
retail & wholesale
prices for use next semester here at MC or to be sold to a wholesale
company who recycles them to other colleges and universities
where they are needed.
WHAT: So…how do we know whose book is being sold? The
answer is that we don’t, unless you take the following steps:
- After you have determined that you are going to keep your purchased books,
put an identifying mark (i.e. your pet’s name — never put social
security #s or addresses) in ink inside all your books at a pretermined
location (i.e. page 22 — never the front or back page). For example:
in your Biology 101 book, on page 22, you would write “Beethoven”
(your St. Bernard’s name) in red ink.
- Make a note of your mark and location in each textbook with a list of
each textbook purchased (Class, Title and author, and ISBN) and keep this
list at home.
- Keep all your personal belongings secure at all times; never leave your
textbooks or backpacks, etc. unattended in a public area, especially
in the library or cafeteria
- If you do have the misfortune to lose, misplace, or have your textbooks
or any personal belonging stolen while on campus, report the incident
to Security immediately. Obtain a copy of the Security report and bring
it with the list of textbooks missing to any of the MC Books & More
locations as soon as possible after your loss.
- The supervisor on duty at the Bookstore will take your information,
including the notation regarding your identifying mark, and place this
information into our Point of Sale and Text Buyback system. That way we
will be able to identify your textbooks when and if someone attempts to
sell the books to the store during our Buyback period. There are no
guarantees, but you could get lucky and get your books returned. At the
very least, you won’t be letting someone profit from your "loss of
investment".
If you need more information on Buyback, Textbooks, or on any Bookstore related
subject, stop by at any of the MC Books More and ask to speak to any manager or
supervisor. Or contact Gale
