CA242 Using VBA with Database Management Software

Course Description

Considers additional topics including Objects, Properties, Methods, and Events using current database software, emphasizing the use of Visual Basic for Applications (VBA) programming. This course assumes no prior programming experience but assumes knowledge of database management applications and an exposure to VBA. 3 semester hours

Prerequisites/Corequisites

 

CA141 or consent of the department

Goals and/or Objectives

Upon successful completion of this course, the student should be able to

  • Development and enhancement of non-technical skills
    • Speak and write about the course topics with sufficient proficiency
    • Apply critical thinking to a variety of topics in the course
  • Tour of Access
    • Prepare a comprehensive database project reviewing prior knowledge
  • Tables, queries, forms and reports
    • Perform exercises exploring advanced topics regarding database creation
  • Objects and properties
    • Apply objects and collections in the Access/VBA environment
  • Event-driven programs
    • Apply programming actions initiated in response to Access events
  • Macros and VBA
    • Employ macros in Access and determine circumstances where they are applicable
  • VBA modules
    • Utilize VBA to develop customized applications with Access including modules, functions and event procedures
  • VBA programming
    • Prepare program procedures including decision structures, looping structures, and error handling
