CA282 Web Application Development Using PHP and MySQL

Course Description

An introduction to the creation and maintenance of data driven Web sites using PHP and MySQL.  Create a MySQL database and maintain the database dynamically using the programming language PHP. Three hours lecture/discussion each week. (3 semester hours)

Prerequisites/Corequisites

CA 278 or CS 140 or consent of department.

Goals and/or Objectives

Topic

By the end of the course, the student will be able to:

Creating the database

Design a database and use MySQL to create a table.

Queries

Generate queries and search and modify the database.

Variables

Use variables to retrieve records from a database and use them to update fields.

Date

Format the date and include date fields in the database.

Introduction to Structured Programming

Describe the three flow control structures used in structured programming and demonstrate how they can be used in a PHP program.

Arrays

Use arrays in PHP.

Functions

Create a function and pass values to the function correctly.

Cookies and Session Variables

Set cookies and session variables to track user activity.

E-Mail

Send an e-mail to a customer who has forgotten their password.

Multimedia

Display an image using PHP and MySQL.
