IS195 students win gaming award!

Gaming students place as one of four finalists in USC Public Diplomacy and Virtual Worlds Contest

Students in IS195 -- the first section ever offered by Montgomery College -- have been chosen as one of four finalists in a contest sponsored by the University of Southern California's Public Diplomacy center. IS195 is a course about level design and building game worlds. The students designed their game in Second Life. Read more.

Transfer Agreement to be signed with University of Baltimore on March 3, 2006.

NEW Gaming Degree: The new gaming degree was approved by the Montgomery College Board of Trustees on June 20, 2005. This is an A.A. degree with three tracks: game programming, game production and game graphic design.

New gaming course approved!
IS195 - Building Game Worlds was approved by the MC Curriculum Committee. (May, 2005). This course will cover level design, mods and testing. Contact Prof. Solomon for more information.

Core classes:

  • Gaming Industry and level design: CA190 (Intro to Game & Simulation Development) and new course IS195 (Level Design & Mods)
  • Flash games and animation -- start creating your first game using Macromedia Flash and ActionScript in PR125 and PR225.
  • Web skills -- important to know if you plan to join the growing number of online game creators, game community forum managers, or simply to put your portfolio on the web! CA272 will get you started.
  • Graphics -- CG120 will teach you how to begin creating digital graphics. In more advanced courses, you can create 2D (CG210) and 3D animation (CG222 - 3DStudio Max and CG226 Advanced 3D).
  • Programming -- choose from Java, C++, .Net and other courses offered by our Computer Science department.
