TUESDAY, APRIL 29
NOON – 4:30 P.M.
Montgomery College-Rockville
Theatre Arts Arena
51 Mannakee Street, Rockville, Maryland

On April 29, future video game developers will showcase their skills, demonstrate games and equipment, and create a full-size, live action version of a video game at Montgomery College’s Game Day. The event is designed to educate high school students and college students about the popular computer gaming industry and the computer gaming and simulation program at Montgomery College.

The schedule of events is as follows:

Noon–1 p.m. - Interactive video game and equipment demonstrations

1–2 p.m. – Live Action Video Game
Computer Gaming Professor Deborah Solomon assigned her students the task of bringing the “Donkey Kong” video game to life in order to test their abilities in creativity, communication and teamwork, which are all skills needed by professional game designers. Music and costumes will be used to portray the hero Mario, Pauline and the gorilla, Donkey Kong. An audience member will "control" Mario by telling him what direction to move. In past years, Professor Solomon has challenged students to reenact the video games “Pac-Man” and “Legend of Zelda”.

2-4 p.m. – Computer Gaming Industry Speakers
Matt Shaw, chief technology officer at Electronic Arts Mythic, will talk about his role in creating and implementing new technology for video games.
Afterward, a panel discussion will talk about student efforts to create an educational video game about estuaries and ocean environments.

4–4:30 p.m. – Student Showcase of Computer Games

This event is open to the media. For parking information, please contact Elizabeth Homan at the numbers above.
