PHOTO EDITORS: For a preview image of the Pac-MC rehearsal with students in costumes, click on this link.

WHO: Montgomery College students from the Computer Gaming class, taught by Professor Deborah Solomon.

WHAT: The students will create a full-size, live-action version of the 1980s video game sensation, Pac-Man, on the grounds of the Rockville Campus.  The students have named their version “Pac-MC,” in honor of the College.  To bring the game to life, students will wear homemade costumes that pay tribute to the yellow-colored dot-eater, Pac-Man, and the ghosts that chase him—Inky, Pinky, Blinky, and Clyde.

Pac-MC is the first event of the day-long Game Expo at Montgomery College, highlighting the popular fields of computer animation and game design.  Other activities include demonstrations, a talk on “The Future of Gaming” by Dr. Stuart Moulthrop from the University of Baltimore, and presentations of student-created animation, games, and art.

WHEN: MONDAY, MAY 2, at 12:30 P.M.

WHERE: MONTGOMERY COLLEGE-ROCKVILLE
Starts near the Counseling and Advising Building and the Theatre Arts Arena
51 Mannakee Street, Rockville, Md.

WHY: Forgoing the usual written final exam, Professor Solomon decided to use Pac-MC to test her students on their game creation skills.  In addition, Pac-MC provides students with the opportunity to work together in teams as game developers often do.

MEDIA: This event is open to the media and students will be available for interviews.  Reporters may park in the reserved spaces located in the Rockville Campus South Parking Lot, off Mannakee Street, near the Counseling and Advising Building.  For directions to Montgomery College’s Rockville Campus, go to: www.montgomerycollege.edu/maps.  For more information about the event, log on to: www.pac-mc.com or contact Elizabeth Homan or Steve Simon at the numbers noted above.
