Arts,
Humanities & Social Sciences area consists of three departments;
namely, English, Reading, Foreign Languages & the American English
Language Program (AELP),
Social Sciences, and Visual, Performing and
Communication Arts. Our two centers--Writing/Reading Center
and the Social Sciences Computer Center
also provide academic support for
our students.
Disciplines in our unit include English, Reading, Developmental Reading, ESL,
Spanish and French; anthropology, economics, education, history, mental health,
philosophy, political science, psychology, and sociology; art, dance, film,
music, speech, and theatre.
We offer a number of different academic programs that share a commitment to
providing a comprehensive learning experience for students, faculty, staff, and the community; such as, the
Teacher
Education Transfer Program (A.A.T);
Mental Health
Program; and
AA degree in Art.
We are also affiliated with the American Film Institute (AFI); and, we oversee
the Takoma Park/Silver Spring campus art gallery.
