CATALOG DESCRIPTION
This course is designed to introduce the student to the concepts of biotechnology as they relate to working in the biotechnology industry. Included are overviews of product development, GLP and cGMP, employer expectations, basic laboratory math and statistics, buffer preparation, handling of equipment and reagents (e.g., enzymes), introduction to experimental design, safety considerations, ethics at the workplace, and introduction to relevant biotech databases available on the Web. (G only). Two hours each week.

CH 100A or consent of department. If you wish to take the course please contact me.

ONLINE REQUIREMENTS
Participation in online discussions is required each week. There is also an assignment or exam each week.
TECHNOLOGY REQUIREMENTS
General computer literacy (word processing, file creation/management, ablity to attach files, ability to search the internet).
ON-CAMPUS REQUIREMENTS
As of Fall 2008 the course is entirely online, but I might change this to having exams given at the college (or other proctored site). Please contact me for current information.
