  Welcome to EC201 - Principles of Economics I,

Welcome to the study of economics. Economics is a fascinating and relevant subject. Indeed, economics is everywhere and affects everyone.

This course teaches the fundamental principles of economics and how these principles may be used to analyze current economic problems. Emphasis in EC 201 is on macroeconomic problems such as inflation, unemployment, and the promotion of living standards of in both wealthy and poor nations.

  Covers macroeconomic theory half of a one-year course in economics including central problems of economic society, supply, and demand; national income and product; saving, consumption, and investment; income determination; money supply and deposit creation; monetary and income analysis and alternative economic systems.

  High school algebra or its equivalent or consent of department

  Economics", by Mankiw, (4th edition for fall 08) [You may purchase this book at the Germantown, MC bookstore.]

"Economics for Life", by Madariaga (any edition) [You may buy this book from any major bookseller. An online text version will be made available to you if you prefer not to buy this book.]

Wingding   ONLINE REQUIREMENTS Wingding

  Regular online participation and some online assignments are required.

Viewing of the "Learning Path" online economics videos associated with the Mankiw textbook is required. You should get the access code to obtain access to these videos when you buy your textbook from the bookstore. If you obtain your textbook by other means, you may need to purchase the access code separately from the publisher.

  This class will hold seven mandatory sessions on Saturday mornings between 9:30-11am at the Germantown Campus. See the schedule of classes for the specific dates and the classroom #.
