Arranging Accommodations for Students with Disabilities
 

Disability Support Services (DSS) is dedicated to assisting students with disabilities accomplish their personal, scholastic and career goals by teaching academic and advocacy skills, by eliminating the physical, technical and attitudinal barriers that limit opportunities, and by promoting an awareness of the experience of persons with disabilities within social, political, and economic constructs.

STEP 1: Initiating Services and Accommodations

Apply for Admission to the College

Obtain an Intake Packet

Submit the completed Intake Packet to a Campus DSS Office with documentation of disability

Submit High School and College Transcripts, if available (unofficial is fine)

Complete Diagnostic Essay (if you have a diagnosed learning disability)

Schedule Appointment with DSS Counselor

Meet with a DSS counselor to discuss goals, make plans, select courses, and determine/request classroom accommodations using a Request for Services Form (at least six weeks before the start of the semester to ensure timely services)

** Counselors design an Accommodations Letter for each student listing authorized classroom accommodations based on documentation of the disability provided by the student.
STEP 2: Sharing the Accomodation Letter

Pick up your Accommodations Letter in the DSS office before or during the first week of school.

During the first or second week of classes, deliver and discuss your Accommodations letter with your instructors to make arrangements for your authorized accommodations.
