IT Acceptable Use Policy (Word doc)

This is the website of Prof. Solomon, Program Coordinator for the Computer Gaming & Simulation Program.

I teach CA 125 (Flash), CA190 (Intro to Game & Simulation Development) and CA195 (Game Level Design & Mods).

Read more about our gaming programs.

I'm looking forward to meeting you this semester!

Welcome

What's New:

Please remember to frequently check the assignment section for your class. You are responsible for completing the assignments on time!

Welcome!

Welcome to a new semester. This semester I am teaching CA190 (the "exergaming and health games" section that is merged with a section of HE100), CA195 (level design and modding with Neverwinter Nights 2 and Unreal 3), and CA125 online (Flash).

Please check the Rockville bookstore for your course books. You can also purchase your books from the MC bookstore online.

Do you know Flash? Are you a good animator?

Flash artists, programmers and animators!!: I am looking for a few students to work on an educational game project funded by a major federal environmental agency. The game development is underway. We are just looking for a few more interns, especially animators with strong artistic skills.

Please email me ASAP if you are interested! (Some positions are paid). My email is deborah.solomon@montgomerycollege.edu

This is an amazing opportunity for students to get experience working on a professional, published game project!

Registering for the Gaming Degree?

The code for the new Computer Gaming and Simulation degree is 606. (The code for the gaming certificate is still 232). You can drop off a registration form at the registrar. Please note the new degree revisions at www.studygaming.com.

UB at Shady Grove!!

UB has begun teaching upper level gaming classes on the Shady Grove campus. This is very close to Montgomery College, so you can complete a four year degree in gaming in Montgomery County (the first 2yrs at MC and the second 2yrs at UB @ Shady Grove).

Web Students can take CA190

If you would like to take CA190 (intro to gaming) but it is not an elective in your certificate/degree program, contact me to discuss a possible course substitution.

Students with prior computer experience can contact me to waive the prereq.

ColdFusion class -- Attention CA273 and CA272 students: If you are planning to take CA278 (ColdFusion and Access - a useful class for web developers), you may want to take the prerequisite (CA141 - Access) this semester. If you have database experience (you just have to know how to create a table), then talk to Prof. Lizmi about waiving the prereq.

Trio Program: The Trio program is seeking "low-income first generation college students, OR students with disabilities". Qualified students who might benefit from such a program should visit Campus Center, RM 217.

The program features:

  • Academic advising and monitoring
  • Career and transfer advising
  • Financial aid application advising
  • Tutoring
  • Mentoring
  • Workshops
  • Cultural enrichment activities

TRIO’s goal is to help students succeed at Montgomery College, transfer successfully to a four-year institution, and subsequently earn a bachelor’s degree. Eligibility requirements are simple; the student must be an American citizen or permanent resident and:

· Meet low-income requirements and have first-generation college status (neither parent holding a four year degree) OR

· Have a documented physical or learning disability

For more information, contact Student Support Services, (301-738-1765), or e-mail abrewer@mc.cc.md.us You also may visit Campus Center, Room 217.

The college has asked us to inform students about MC's emergency evacuation policy (Word document).

Extra credit Project -- all classes: Prepare 10 multiple choice exam questions (with at least 4 choices & please indicate which is the correct choice) on the topics studied in class and submit them to me by email two weeks before a test. Questions should be of medium difficulty -- not too easy, not too difficult, similar to the level of work we do in class.
