1. BOOKS

MC Library Catalog: Change the search engine setting to "Keyword Boolean" and create a Boolean Search Expression. There are three components to Boolean search expressions:

Keywords: tend to be the nouns that best describe a topic
Boolean Operators: AND, OR, and NOT
Punctuation: quotation marks for phrases, parentheses with OR

Books By Topic: Here are some sample searches using keywords and Boolean operators:

"physical education" AND history
"physical education" AND philosophy
exercise and physiol?
"sports psychology"
sport? and sociolog?
Request Book From Another Campus: Go into MC Library Catalog and use the REQUEST ITEM button at the top of the page.

Covers all subject areas.
Academic OneFile
Covers all subject areas.
Education Journals
Contains articles from over 700 education related journals.
PsychArticles
Contains articles from 55 peer-reviewed psychology journals from the American Psychological Association.
Health Source - Nursing/Academic
This database contains academic journals covering nutrition, kinesiology and health/medical related topics.

Results can be sorted by date or relevance. To print, use the button within the database.

Here are some sample searches using keywords and Boolean operators:

steroids AND athletes
nutrition AND (sports OR athletes)
"stregnth training" AND athletes

Gatorade Sports Institute
Created in 1988 by the Gatorade Co. to conduct research in sports medicine, exercise science and fitness.
Mayo Clinic Food and Nutrition Center
A comprehensive site on nutrition from the Mayo Clinic.
USDA Nutrient Database for Standard Reference
This USDA site provides a search tool to look up the nutrient content of over 6,200 different foods.
