Many students have asked for general information about the CA/CS 269 Internship Program.

 

CA/CS 269 is a for-credit course for students who obtain semester-long internships.  Students first apply for the program if they have completed a minimum of 12 credit hours in CA or CS Department Courses.  We then forward the student's applications and resumes to interested employers who call the students for interviews.  If the student obtains an internship with the program’s assistance, the student must then register for CA/CS 269.  Registration requires a Departmental signature and a letter from the employer.  Special requirements apply to those on foreign visas. 

 

Students may also register with Departmental approval if they find their own qualified internship and are otherwise qualified.

Step By Step Procedures – CA/CS 269

 

First, get a copy of the Internship Brochure from the Rockville Campus Main Office of the CA/CS Departments at Macklin Tower, Room 427, Rockville Campus.  The brochure is also available on the web site.

 

Second, fill out a copy of the Internship Application if you have completed 12 credit hours in the CA Dept. or 12 credit hours in the CS Department.  (No mixing courses between Departments.) See the FAQ page if you need further information on the course and credit requirements.

Third, place the completed application in Prof. Kimball’s mailbox in MT 427, Rockville Campus.

  4. Determine if you're qualified.
    Minimum 12 credit hours in Computer Applications or 12 credit hours in Computer Science, or 12 Credit hours in Networking. No mixing-and-matching between departments allowed
  5. You must be enrolled currently at the College.
  6. Fill out the application (on the web site);
  7. List on the front page of the application only those courses which you have taken at MC or which the College has transferred from another institution. You can list other relevant credits on the back page; provide transcripts from other institutions if you wish to rely on non-MC credits;
  8. Return the application to Prof. Kimball’s mailbox in MT/CT 427 Rockville campus;
  9. Attach a resume if you have one. If you do not, use the Sample Resume to create a resume for yourself, and submit it along with your application.
  10. We will then review your application and determine if you're qualified.
  11. We send your resume to interested employers on internships for which you may be qualified as internships become available.  Available internships are listed on the web site. 
  12. The employers then call you if they want to interview you for an internship.
  13. You may also obtain your own qualifying internship. See the separate memo.
  14. Office hours. Office days and hours are posted on the web site. Please sign up for an interview on the sign-up sheet located in MT/CT 427, Rockville Campus. You can also visit Prof. Kimball’s Gaithersburg Business Training Center Office at other times by appointment.
