How To Register for CA/CS 269 If You Already Have An Internship

 

1.  Please see our web site,

2.  Read the web site thoroughly;

3.  Read the FAQ page;

4.  Determine if you're qualified (minimum 12 credit hours in Computer Applications or 12 credit hours in Computer Science, no mixing-and-matching between departments allowed)

5.      Fill out the application (on the web site);

a.  List only those courses which you have taken at MC or which the College has transferred from another institution.  You can list other relevant credits on another page.  Provide transcripts from another institution if you wish to rely on credits from another institution;

6.      Attach a resume if you have one;

7.      Return the application to Prof. Kimball’s mailbox in MT/CT 427 Rockville campus; Very Important

8.      If you already have a qualifying internship:

  1. Provide a letter from your employer on the employer’s letterhead, signed by your supervisor or employer. 
  2. Address the letter to Prof. Raymond J. Kimball, Internship Coordinator, Computer Applications/Computer Science Department, Montgomery College, 51 Mannakee St., Rockville, MD 20850. 
  3. The letter should contain the following information;

i.                     Job Description.  Include description of projects on which the intern is assigned or likely to work during the course of the internship;

ii.                   List computer skills used in connection with the job;

iii.                  Duration – How long will the job last?  It must last through the end of the current semester to be eligible for the internship program.  Two-week web design projects would not qualify.

iv.                 Hours per week.  List how many hours per week you will work.  This is important to meet College standards and determine the CA/CS Internship Seminar Registration fee.

v.                   Compensation.  Is this a paid internship?  What is the hourly pay rate and/or other compensation?

vi.                 Supervisor Name, phone number, and address.

 

  1. Make an appointment with Prof. Kimball to register for the class;

i.                     Call 240-567-5185, the CA Dept. Main Office, to make an appointment, or

ii.                   Sign up in Prof. Kimball’s appointment book, CA/CS Main Office, Macklin Tower Rm. 427, Rockville Campus, during regular business hours.  Prof. Kimball’s office hours are listed on the web site.

iii.                  Call 240-567-3829 to make an appointment in Prof. Kimball’s Gaithersburg Business Training Center Office, 12 S. Summit Ave, Gaithersburg, MD, at any other time.

iv.                 Bring the following to the meeting:

a.                  A copy of your completed, recent CA/CS Internship Application;

b.                  A copy of your resume;

c.                  A copy of the letter from your employer;

d.                  A Montgomery College Drop/Add slip;

e.                  The semester’s Credit Schedule with the current CRN Nos. for CA/CS 269.
