Web Graphics - Lab Assignment

Your lab assignment is to design a web page template in Fireworks which has the elements listed below.

After you have completed your graphic design, slice the Fireworks page canvas, create HTML slices, export the Fireworks graphic, and import it into DreamWeaver. The "Drawing Notes" and Exporting Notes provide the steps for the assignment.

Load the page to your web4students web site.

Home Page Template

Your home page template should have the following characteristics. You can decide on placement and size, depending on the "needs" of your web site:

  1. Canvas Size - (suggest 700px w x 700px h) (Design for 800w x 600h resolution monitor
  2. A Banner (vector graphic drawn with the rectangle tool; add Text Box with text.)
  3. A "Logo." Your logo can be a 100x100 px picture taken from the Common File pictures of Montgomery College I've provided to you.
  4. A Navigation bar with Buttons created in Fireworks
  5. A main text area. You will define this as an HTML Slice when you slice the layers.
  6. Optional - other structural areas or graphics (slices) as desired for your web site.

Export the Image to DreamWeaver after you have sliced it, optimized the images for export, and entered links as outlined in the class notes.

This is an ambitious project. We will start it in Class 2. Do your best to continue it in the lab and complete it if possible. While we will be moving on to Flash next week, those taking the DreamWeaver Level 1 and Advanced DreamWeaver class(es) will find that this exported Fireworks template will assist you in designing the graphical elements of your DreamWeaver web site.

Once you export, you can always change the document by going back to the original Fireworks file, edit it, and export the changes. Back to Top
