First-Year Experience Program

Meet the Rockville FYE Coordinators

Elise Kong

Hometown: New York

Education:
San Diego State University, MS, MFT

Wellesley College, BA History

One critical piece of information I'd give a first year student:

Do not rely solely on other students for information concerning your academic planning. Meet a counselor or academic advisor to get the most accurate and up to date information.

My favorite place at Montgomery College:

The counseling center!

The MC student service I think every student should know about:

Get to know the FYE Student Ambassadors and obtain a peer insight from experienced MC students.

What I like to do when I'm not at work:

Spend time with my family, exercise, and sing.

Education:
George Washington University, M.Ed, Counseling

John Hopkins University, Certificate in Clinical Counseling

University of Maryland, College Park, B.A., American Studies

One critical piece of information I'd give a first year student:

Know what courses are required for your intended program of study. If you are undecided and are following the general studies curriculum, know what courses are recommended and which classes are easily transferable.

My favorite place at Montgomery College:

The counseling department is my favorite place at MC because you get to interact with many of the students that attend MC and a lot of potential students. Also, the staff in the counseling department is always so welcoming and kind, and truly makes MC a happy place to be.

The MC student service I think every student should know about:

The MC website transfer tools. This will allow students to plan ahead and have an idea of what courses they should take that will allow them to successfully transfer with credits from Montgomery College to another in-state institiution.

What I'd like to do when I'm not at work:

I love to play with my 14 month old son and spend time with my husband and three cats. I look forward to seeing all the new firsts that my son is experiencing. I enjoy spending quality time with my sisters and brother and going to my parent's beach house where my son can play with his grandparents.
