International and ESL Students
MC is proud to welcome students from 160 different countries around the world, and others for whom English is not a first language.  This diversity and sense of radical inclusion is also reflected in our academic philosophy and in our faculty.
Welcome new and returning students!

Located on three suburban campuses near Washington, DC, Montgomery College (MC) is a welcoming, diverse site of learning for almost 60,000 students each year. Our many program and course opportunities can improve your academic skills, increase your chance for a successful transfer to four-year colleges and universities, or prepare you for a job.

MC offers a variety of credit and noncredit courses and programs for students whose first language is not English, from the most basic ESL training to English Language for Academic Purposes.

Important Information about recent changes in immigration procedures

If a student is currently enrolled at Montgomery College and is ending their non-immigrant status (dependents turning 21 years old, or persons ending the employment which gave them a non-immigrant status, etc) they may need to Apply for a form I-20 to get F-1 or M-1 status through the Montgomery College International Coordinator's Office.  RECENT CHANGES in immigration procedures may require you to start this process SIX TO NINE MONTHS BEFORE the current status ends.  An appointment is necessary, please contact the Office.  For additional information see our webpage for  Applying for an I-20 from Inside of the United States.

International Students NOT in F-1 or M-1 status  (A-1, G, H1b or H4, J-1, and others - including dependents) go to http://cms.montgomerycollege.edu/EDU/Plain.aspx?id=3666 to complete the application.

We WELCOME Non-immigrants (except visitors on the Visa Waiver Program, those with a "B" visa, and "F-2" dependents of other students) to study at the College based on their visa and status requirements.

  • Students in categories A , E, G, H I, J, K, L, N, O, P, Q, R, S, T, U, AND V  are welcome to study part time or full time while they are in the United States and should apply directly to the Admission and Records/Registrar's Office on their Campus of choice!
  • Persons in categories, C, D, and WT= visa waiver, are NOT permitted to study but may apply to get the I-20 and apply for a F-1 Student Visa at a US Consulate outside of the United States.
  • Those with F-2 status may study part time as long as their F-1 parent is still in status.
  • Visitors in B status may only take a course for their own interest while they visit the US and should see an International Coordinator BEFORE applying to the College if they are interested in more study.
