Cascading Style Sheets (CSS), CMP843

Cascading Style Sheets (CSS) currently are used to design most modern web sites. Older web sites are being converted to CSS designs. This course focuses on using CSS and CSS editors to define all the design features of web sites. Learn CSS techniques to create margins, text styling and other text basics, page positioning and layout, image features, create complete links and navigation bars with CSS and without images or JavaScript, use CSS to format spreadsheet and tabular data, design forms with CSS, CSS browser testing, and other techniques.

Prerequisite: HTML Basic or equivalent experience.

Technology update: Please bring a Flash Drive/Memory Stick 512MB or larger to class which will enable you to save your class work.

Textbook:

Books may be purchased at the MC Bookstore or online. You will need to know the CMP#(Continuing Education classes) for the class you are taking in order to look up information about the textbook.

Upon completion of this course students will be able to:
  1. Create all web page design elements in an external Cascading Style Sheet.
  2. Use and understand Cascading Style Sheet software editors.
  3. Create CSS page layouts and find useful layouts on the web.
  4. Use CSS to increase web page download speed and accessibility.
  5. Create navigation "button" with CSS instead of using "graphics" and JavaScript.
  6. Troubleshoot CSS and test CSS pages in various browsers.
