Dreamweaver Level II with Fireworks, CMP994
Use Dreamweaver to design and test web sites for computer, PDA, and cell phone display. Position and style page elements using divisions and external Cascading Style Sheets (CSS). Learn to incorporate and modify Dreamweaver’s standard CSS layouts and Spry Widget menus, navigation features, and panels to fit your site’s design styles. Learn how to use Adobe Fireworks to design vector graphics such as banners, logos, and roll-over buttons, edit and “optimize” photos, prepare graphic and HTML slices, export Fireworks “slices,” and import them into Dreamweaver.
Prerequisites: Dreamweaver Level I or equivalent experience. Knowledge of HTML and some knowledge of CSS are helpful also
Technology update: Please bring a Flash Drive/Memory Stick 512MB or larger to class which will enable you to save your class work.
Textbook:
Books may be purchased at the MC Bookstore or online. You will need to know the CMP#(Continuing Education classes) for the class you are taking in order to look up information about the textbook.

Course Objectives:
At the end of this course students will know how to:
- Create flexible web layouts using divisions and CSS;
- Use and modify Dreamweaver’s pre-formatted CSS web page layouts;
- Use and modify Dreamweaver’s pre-formatted Spry navigation and pop-out widgets;
- Create banners using Fireworks’ vector text, color gradients, and inserted graphics;
- Import, modify, and prepare web-ready graphics using Fireworks tools and export wizards;
- Design and export graphic “slices” and reserved HTML slices from Fireworks, and import them into Dreamweaver web sites.
Course Content
Note: Individual instructors may teach included topics in a different order. This list is intended to be instructive of the course coverage and objectives.
Unit 1
- Review Dreamweaver Site Set-up; create a site;
- Review Cascading Style Sheet Basics and the Dreamweaver CSS Panel features
- Create flexible web layouts and position and style page elements using divisions and CSS;
- Create a web site and upload it to a web server using Dreamweaver’s built-in FTP/Files Panel
Unit 2
- Use and modify Dreamweaver’s pre-formatted CSS web page layouts;
- Use and modify Dreamweaver’s pre-formatted Spry navigation and pop-out widgets;
Unit 3
- Fireworks: Editing tools and File Creation
- Fireworks Toolbars and Property Inspector
- Using the Tools Panel
- Working with the Layers Panel
- Create banners using Fireworks’ vector text, color gradients, and inserted graphics;
- Import, modify, and prepare web-ready graphics using Fireworks tools and export wizards;
Unit 4
- Design and export graphic “slices” and reserved HTML slices from Fireworks, and import them into Dreamweaver web sites.
Unit 5
- Continue above exercises if not completed;
- Prepare an integrated web site with graphics banners, graphics, Spry widget navigation features, export Fireworks graphics and import to Dreamweaver, and upload a completed web site with the advanced features introduced in the various classes.
- Students need to upload a browser tested, flexible and complete web site based on division design and advanced CSS layouts, with Spry widget features and Fireworks graphics to complete the objectives of this course.
