Employer Internship Information

TechLEAP and WebLEAP retrains college graduates in modern programming languages, web technologies and network administration. Entering students typically have BS, BA, and Masters degrees in Computer Science, Engineering, Physics, Biology, Information Systems, and other disciplines.  Many students have significant work experience.

Students include recent college graduates who need skills training, spouses re-entering the workforce with science, computer science, engineering and other degrees, scienc and engineering spouses of international engineering and IT workers, and U.S. citizens seeking training/retraining in IT fields.

Over ninety-five percent (95%) of all TechLEAP graduates since 2000 have been successfully placed in Information Technology, Engineering, Web Developer, Network Administration and other Montgomery County, Maryland, Washington, D.C. Metro, and Northern Virginia opportunities.  This is possible given Montgomery County's highly educated workforce, TechLEAP's competitive admission exams, and the program's market-focused, skills-based training courses and curriculum.

TechLEAP programmer training includes classes in C++, C#, VB.NET, ASP.NET, MS SQL Server, Web Applications programming languages and web technologies, Java, J2EE, Linux/UNIX, databases, Oracle SQL electives and other skills.

WebLEAP web developer training includes classes in web programming, basic and advanced XHTML, DreamWeaver, web graphics (Photoshop and Fireworks) Flash Actionscript, JavaScript, XML, AJAX, advanced CSS, and electives in Cold Fusion, ASP.NET, PHP, 508 Accessibilityand others.

Network Administration training includes Microsoft Certified Desktop Support (MCDST), Microsoft Certified Systems Administrator (MCSA) courses, Cisco CCNA certificate training, and Linux/UNIX.

TechLEAP works with employers to arrange paid internships, part-time, and full-time employment and jobs through TechLEAP's Internship Course. TechLEAP looks for well-defined project(s) or tasks with on-the-job training and good supervision of entry-level and junior programmers and web developers.

Many TechLEAP students have prior programming experience. We often retrain those with engineering, computer science, mathematics, and biology degrees. These students are quick learners, often need less supervision, and often can handle more complex assignments than undergraduates. Our courses include training in IT Soft Skills, team projects and IT project management.

Most TechLEAP internships are a minimum 2 months duration, full-time, 40 hours per week , at a recommended $10.00 per hour. Internships of 3 months prove beneficial. if the relationship extends beyond 2-3 months, we encourage more detailed arrangements with students .

TechLEAP regularly provide interns for entry-level computer programming projects, database design (Oracle and Access), web and advanced web technologies, network administration, PC hardware and software installation, Help Desk, and administrative assistance.
