TechLEAP - Contemporary Computer Concepts (CMP973)

This course introduces programming, database, web, multimedia, digital graphic, modeling and simulation, and other information technology (IT) students to contemporary computer and IT industry concepts.  The course also will address new trends and changing skill sets that contemporary workers need in the IT marketplace.  Topics include introduction to computer hardware and software, peripheral devices, digital electronics and file management, networks and the internet, the web and e-commerce, and operating systems.

 Prerequisite:  None
 
Upon completion of this course students will be able to:

  1. Use Windows Explorer to manage files and folders;
  2. Create, edit, rename, and move files and folders using Windows Explorer;
  3. Understand and use the differences between Windows operating systems in widespread use by businesses and individuals using PC systems;
  4. Identify and understand the basic hardware components of a personal computer – processors, circuits, motherboard, expansion cards, RAM, and cache;
  5. Identify and distinguish between Graphical User Interface (GUI) software and editors in common use for designing object-oriented programs and web pages.
