TechLEAP is an intensive career development program with internship and career path opportunities. TechLEAP retrains qualified students in computer programming or web design. Students can select TechLEAP as an intensive "immersion" program, with or without an internship option, or they can register for individual courses to supplement existing skills. "Course-by-course" Open Enrollment. TechLEAP courses will be open in the Fall 2003 to qualified students who wish to take one or more courses to supplement their existing skills. This will enhance businesses training opportunities for "skills upgrade" courses, and also permit students to take a series of coordinated courses leading to certification testing. Internships and Career Opportunities. TechLEAP students who successfully master the program's courses can select a course option to have the opportunity for an internship with Montgomery County or Washington Metropolitan area technology companies or I.T. departments. Students desiring the internship option are selected on the basis of their aptitude for technical study and given both classroom and practical work experience. Participating Companies and Agencies. In 2001-2003 participating companies and agencies have included Attronica, Maryland National Capital Parks & Planning Commission (MNCPPC), Metrix Technologies, Montgomery County Government, NIH, NIST, Phillips International, Visual Analytics, Westat, and others. Many TechLEAP internships have the potential to lead to full-time IT employment in government and industry. TechLEAP Fall 2003. The next TechLEAP will be offered in September, 2003 with exciting new modifications and courses. Aptitude tests will begin in May, 2003, with applications due on or before August 1, 2003. Visit this web site periodically in the Spring 2003 for updated information on the Fall '03 program schedule. Questions? Call or email TechLEAP's Project Manager, Prof. Raymond J. Kimball.
