                                   Call Numbers: Step 1

All materials except journals, magazines, and paperback collections has been assigned a call number.  A call number is like an address or location number and allows for a logical arrangement of the library's materials.  These numbers are part of a classification system.  The Montgomery College Libraries use the Library of Congress (LC) Classification System.  In the LC system, the result is that similar materials are grouped together.  For example, all of the science materials are in the "Q" section, and within the "Q" call numbers there are the groupings of "Mathematics," "Physics," and "Botany."
