                         Why Use Citations

When you write research papers for your classes, you will be asked to cite the articles you use.  According to the Bedford Researcher, "Research writers document their sources to avoid plagiarism, demonstrate accountability to others who have written about a topic, and create a record of their work that others can follow and build upon" (283).

For more information about plagiarism, you can work through the tutorial Plagiarism: What It Is and How to Avoid It after you complete this tutorial. The plagiarism tutorial is located on the library web page under the heading tutorials.
