Definition:

 

          A library database is an electronic catalog or index.

        • Library databases contain information about published items.

        • Library databases are searchable.

 

What is indexed in a library database?

 

        • Magazines/Journals

        • Books

        • Newspapers

 

What types of information do library databases provide?

 

        • Citation information: 

                • Author

                • Title of Article

                • Title of Magazine or Journal

                • Date of publication, volume number, issue number

                • Page where article can be located in paper copy of the

                    journal or magazine.

 

        • Abstracts:

                • Summary about the article contents.

 

        • Full-text:

                • Many articles are available in full-text from the database

                   that can be printed if useful for your research.

 

There are many databases available through the Library Web page.  Some are subject specific and some are more general.  The databases include citations, abstracts and many include full-text articles.  If you have any questions about locating articles, please come to the reference desk where the Librarians would be happy to assist you.
